This directory contains beta release 1 of the version of SunOS Minix
that is based on Minix 1.7.1. It will only operate under Solaris 2
(2.4 and 2.5 have been used without problems) and assumes that gcc is
available. The directory hierarchy is much the same as that of the
main Minix 1.7.1 release. The disks directory contains two SunOS
Minix file systems. Installation instructions and other pieces of
documentation can be found in the doc directory. Included in the doc
directory are two files (smx.net and smx171.status) containing
jottings on changes that may be made to the beta version before
the release proper. The standard SunOS Minix blurb follows.

Any feedback (including pieces of code) is most welcome. Send it
to the email address below.

=====

SunOS Minix is a version of Minix that runs as a user process on Sun
4s running Solaris 2.X. In SunOS Minix, the processor time used
is the time allocated to the SunOS process running SunOS Minix, each
file system is a SunOS file, and the console is /dev/tty of the SunOS
process. Also, it is possible for multiple users to log into a single
instance of SunOS Minix.

SunOS Minix runs as a user process, so does not require a dedicated
machine. Also, multiple instance of SunOS Minix can run on a single
machine simultaneously without interfering with each other.

Any enquiries should be sent to paul@cosc.canterbury.ac.nz. There is a
SunOS Minix mailing list. Postings and admin requests for the mailing
list should be sent to the same address.
